The Liar Among Us - CLOSED

There once was a time when all four clans could live in peace. The territories respected and the warrior code upheld. For a long time, this was the way it was. Windclan, Thunderclan, Riverclan and Shadowclan. Then, out of the blue, cats began to fall. There was a murderer in the clan's midst, and Starclan would not answer. Leaders, warriors, and elders alike passed in all four clans, any and all connection to Starclan gone. The remaining cats went mad trying to find the killer. Innocent cats were exiled, some even killed out of the fear and anxiety. After moons of terror, the remaining leaders finally acted, if Starclan would not guide them, they would come to a decision. All cats that had no proof of innocence would be exiled. Of the remaining cats, this left six. These six cats from all four clans were to be banished, and if seen again, killed. Now, six cats must forge a new home, five innocent, one guilty.
The question is, which cat is guilty?

Emberfoot stood quietly, kneading his paws into the muddy ground. His tail flicked back and forth irritably, ears flattened against his head in a vain attempt to block out the noise of the cats around him. They had stopped their journey, having come across a river with fairly drinkable water. It was here that the ragtag group of exiles had decided to search for a camp. Somewhere close enough to this river to allow drinking water, but far enough away as to not be a danger. It infuriated Emberfoot that they were looking for a place to settle. He wasn't going to spend any more time with these cats than he had too. Even after just a few sunrises with these cats, he had been ready to claw his ears off. Secretly, he was beginning to understand why a cat may have became a killer. He could only take so much without wanting to hit someone over the head with his paw. Or a rock. Better yet, a tree.
With another heavy huff, he turned back to the five other cats. "I'm not staying anywhere near the river. I'm a Windclan cat, not Riverclan." He spat the word as if it tasted bad. He also left out the fact that he used to be a Windclan cat. He belonged to nothing now. He knew he was being unreasonable, but he was fed up. He was hungry too. The group of cats hadn't eaten a real meal since they had been exiled nearly seven sunrises ago. Not to mention the mud that now clung to his legs. This was Shadowclan and Riverclan territory. Not a Windclan cat's home. He was meant to be away from the suffocating trees and sound of water, where he could see the stars and the clouds. "We have to at least get somewhere dry, for Starclan's sake."

Scorchfire flicked his ears at Emberfoot's complaining. He was not particularly fond of the location himself, being that they were near Shadowclan territory. Scorchfire felt his fur prickling along his spine as Shadowclan's murky scent markers washed over his senses. It was pain-staking, the feeling it gave him. He let his eyes flicker towards the direction of Shadowclan, but they immediately adverted back. He closed his deep orange orbs, letting the bitter nostalgia clear from his mind, and then he reopened them.
"You're right, Emberfoot." He answered grimly, padding to stand beside the exiled Windclan warrior. Mud clung to Scorchfire's pelt as well, but he was used to it. It wasn't that he minded the muddy terrain or dark landscape, it was just almost more than he could stand to be anywhere near Shadowclan. "Shadowclan warriors normally patrol close to this area. This is not the safest location, much less preferred one."

Thornheart was currently busying herself with the water, hitting her paw in it's ripples and trying to reach fallen leaves that floated in the muddy surface. She was covered in mud, but you couldn't tell. Her fur was completely black, so mud had no effect on her looks. Her bright yellow eyes reflected in the shining brown surface of what could easily be called a mud puddle. Her ears were listening to the argument behind her, so she slightly turned her head away from the mud to look at them in a side-ways glance.
"If you don't like it here, just leave." she shrugged her shoulders. She didn't say it offensively, but with the innocence of Queen Marie Antoinette when she uttered the infamous words, "Let them eat cake." Thornheart honestly didn't understand why these cats decided to ban together. Especially if they didn't like where they were. Turning her body to the two cats and forgetting the mud, she tilted her head a bit with wide eyes. "No one has told you to stay. You are staying with a murderer after all." she told Emberfoot, saying the words 'murderer' so casually that it sounded almost surreal.

Foxstare let out a yawn. She had been unusually quiet today within the group and she knows that it's unnerved them, which was exactly what she's going for now. This clever cat was sizing everybody up. Seven nights ago, she encountered these interesting balls of fur. Each with a unique personality that clashed with one another, in quite the amusing way if she could add. They all had one thing in common though, they were exiled from their own clans. Yep, Foxstare will never see her home again. Oh well. She hasn't told a wink to the other cats, not even that she was exiled, though that probably wasn't hard to guess. As they traveled those seven days, Foxstare had made sure that she would break the silence with endless chatter, doing her best to press buttons. Now as they discussed where to stay, Foxstare still remained as she had this whole day, quiet. Her two different-colored eyes following the cats silently as they discussed where to stay. This white she-cat was a Thunderclan cat and though this area wasn't one that she would choose if she had the fortunate luxury to, it was a good idea to camp near here. Of course not everyone seems to think that way.
Foxstare's ears went up as she turned her head to look and listen to Emberfoot. The fluffy ginger tom had so far proven to be quite difficult in their little time together. And she's been loving it every second...except for right now. A huge smile showed as she quietly crept over to Emberfoot until she was right in his face, eyes ridiculing him. She then purred as she spoke her words to him. "Haha, how hilarious! Do not worry, you won't tun into a fish. Or maybe we will all turn into fishes." An insane look came upon her face as she held back laughter. She turned away to announce to the others. "Hey guys! Do you think we'll turn into fish today if we stay around here? Wouldn't that be amazing?" She egged on, breaking the silence she had held for the day.
She then turned to look back at Emberfoot, her expression a little more tamed now. "How about this. We look for food and fine a place to rest here. If we keep going, we'll die. I personally promise that. I also promise that I'll do my best for you to make sure that we pick a spot that can at least satisfy you, but that's all." She said, her voice leaving him to challenge her. It didn't matter how hilarious their situation was, Foxstare was exhausted and starving. Rest and food was a necessity right now. And she wasn't about to allow this tom to act like a spoiled kittypet who cried because he didn't get his second helping during dinner. She'll be happy to get in a fight with him.
Scorchfire thankfully came to Emberfoot's rescue then, and Foxstare turned to look at the black tom as if she was eying a mouse. She tipped her head so that her good eye was staring right at the former Shadowclan cat. "It's true that you would know more than I or him, haha." She admitted with a chuckle. Thinking for several minutes, she finally spoke. "You're probably right, Scorchfire. But we can't go on much longer. So I'm curious to know what you purpose." She said with a sly smile. The white she-cat didn't even acknowledge Thornheart's words. A murderer was the least of their concerns at this very moment.

Scorchfire felt his pelt begin to lie flat. Oddly, the constant talking around him put him at ease. Well, took his mind off things to be more clear. The broad black tom wished, however, he had not spoke up because now he was sucked into the conversation, and back-peddling was useless at this point. He noted Thornheart's comment in a surprisingly accepting way. After all, he did not have to be here. But where else would he go? Sure, he could live alone, but he'd hate having to sneak around the territories like a lowly piece of foxdung. Or worse, Shadowclan would find him, and he knew the warriors would not hesitate to bombard him and kill him. Scorchfire chose to stay with the group of exiles because numbers mattered when it came to survival. He knew he would have a better chance staying alive with them. If he was on his own, who knows? This gang of exiles could kill him if he wasn't on their side; after all a murderer was among them.
His attention was drawn back into the conversation as he was directly spoken to. His deep orange eyes found her mismatched ones, and he listened with an expressionless face. He's right, she had said. That this place was not safe, he was at least glad that was acknowledged. But, she was right as well, and at this point, Scorchfire saw no sense for pride. "We have no choice really at this point. However instead of standing around questioning each other, my proposal would be to find food. Hopefully everyone likes frogs and lizards, good luck finding anything else."

Of course, Scotchfire had been a fellow Shadowclan cat, but him like the rest payed no attention to her before this whole murder mess happened. She trotted closer to them - almost too close, for this she-cat didn't exactly have the best sense of boundaries. As she walked, Scourge's purple spiked collar jingled around her neck. Quite and adorning accessory if you were to ask her, she liked it. It reminded her of the father she never knew.
"We can eat berries." she suggested. "Berries of all kinds grow everywhere. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries..." she rambled before stopping herself to look up with wide eyes. "They're good. I think, but not better than fresh-kill." she pointed out before adding, "They'll tie us over so we can travel to a place with more rats to eat." Now, she knew they wouldn't be so keen to just up and go vegetarian for a while, but whether they wanted to or not, she was going in search of some berries. "Anyone want to help me find berries? Scorchfire?" she turned to the tom and asked lightly and softly with a tilt of her head and hopeful eyes that resembled that of a begging kit. Scorchfire was Shadowclan. Shadowclan was one home. Home is safer than not home. That was her logic at least.

All the chatter surrounded her, and she swiveled her ears, pressing them hard against her cranium to block out all the unfamiliar drama. She decided that they were lucky to be anywhere. Opaqueshade felt the tips of her ears twitch with irritability at the sound of "berries". No thanks, she answered in her mind bitterly, curling her lip to reveal wide yellow incisors at her distaste for berries. Lifting her leg and shaking a paw as flecks of mud flew off of her large black paws. She was fine with the mud. A ShadowClan cat from heart, short and stocky. "I'm down with that," She answered curtly towards Scorchfire, and without another word, she began making her way through the sloshing mud, claws unsheathed to give her more traction. "Anyone can tag along. So long as you know how to catch frogs and lizards." It was added with a bit of haste, narrowing her dark blue eyes to glance over her shoulder, whiskers twitching. After a few seconds, the she-cat propelled herself forward and bounded slowly away.

Emberfoot's ears flicked in Scorchfire's direction when the tom spoke. Emberfoot may have been the only Windclan cat here, but a sense of admiration crept into his heart as he looked at the warrior. Besides, there were no clans where this group was headed. Who cared about clan loyalty? Intelligence was what was left, and this tom surely had it. Emberfoot opened his mouth to speak, when two she-cats he recognized as Thornheart and Foxstare spoke. Emberfoot found himself startled at his indifference towards Thornheart's words. Sure, he had thought about leaving plenty of times, but that didn't mean he would. No. It was better to find the killer and get them out of the equation. Then- maybe then- he could return to Windclan.
Eyes switching over to Foxstare, Emberfoot's hackles raised slightly. The obnoxious she-cat was in his face, her white pelt becoming a target for his pent up aggression. His ears flew back in confusion and disgust, the humor the she-cat found in the situation dry. His fury ebbed, but confusion grew as the she-cat's demeanor changed and she spoke of finding a better place to camp. Shaking his head slightly, Emberfoot only huffed a breath of air in the she-cat's direction, fed up with trying to figure her out.
Once the topic of a hunt was brought up, Emberfoot couldn't help but feel his mood perk. Perhaps he could ease some of the tension in his belly with a snack. "I'm used to rabbits, but I can learn. I'd certainly be more help hunting than sitting around waiting for you to get back."

Foxstare nodded at Scorchfire's words, though she wore the same smile and had those same eyes that looked at others as if they were pathetic rats, she felt respect towards the tom. "Ah, I like you already, Scorchfire! Let's indeed do that. We can make this our meeting spot for the time being. It would be wise if we split up in groups of two, heheh." Foxstare added on to Scorchfire's idea, the leader within her coming out as she spoke her words, her body posture becoming more firm and elegant as she gave the orders. Someone had to be a bit bossy at times like this.
It was then that Thornheart spoke, apparently already fond of Scorchfire. They were from the same clan, after all, so it made sense. As far as Foxstare knew, none of these cats were from her clan, not that she really cared. Opaqueshade was already going off on her own, unsurprising. Foxstare didn't mind her, she was easy to figure out so that left Foxstare with no feeling of hostility towards her. Then again she just found this whole situation silly and ridiculous, it was hard to take this seriously. With a thoughtful meow, Foxstare spoke her thoughts. "Scorchfire and Thornheart could go look for food together. And Emberfoot could go join Opaqueshade. And I can go along with Swiftleaf once he stops pouting over there." She suggested in a voice that was practically sung out. They needed some organization here.
It was then that Thornheart spoke, apparently already fond of Scorchfire. They were from the same clan, after all, so it made sense. As far as Foxstare knew, none of these cats were from her clan, not that she really cared. Opaqueshade was already going off on her own, unsurprising. Foxstare didn't mind her, she was easy to figure out so that left Foxstare with no feeling of hostility towards her. Then again she just found this whole situation silly and ridiculous, it was hard to take this seriously. With a thoughtful meow, Foxstare spoke her thoughts. "Scorchfire and Thornheart could go look for food together. And Emberfoot could go join Opaqueshade. And I can go along with Swiftleaf once he stops pouting over there." She suggested in a voice that was practically sung out. They needed some organization here.

Thornheart looked over to Foxstare. The leader that shone through her didn't sit well with Thornheart. Of course, the white cat did pair her with Scorchfire, which she respected, for he was part of her old clan, but Thornheart didn't like Foxstare. She couldn't figure it out. Thornheart made it a promise not to be bossed around. She wouldn't be ruled by another leader that would tun and exile everyone. Her brows nitted together as she narrowed her eyes at the white she-cat.
"Hmm, yes. Twos would be very valuable. But it is on your head if you pair someone up with the murder. What a heavy load you would have to hold, knowing you basically put someone to their death." she grumbled at the she-cat. Uncaring if anyone else heard her. It was true though. Thornheart either liked you, or she didn't. And she didn't like Foxstare, for a reason she will never be able to explain. Her scowl instantly flipped to a happy innocent look as she bounded towards Scorchfire. "Coming slow-poke? I know where all the good berry bushes are!" she giggled before skipping off into the brush, looking back at the Shadowclan tom.

Climbing up the murky rise, back legs propelling her up, the short fem reached out higher, higher, stretching her front legs to climb up and out of the mud. Her black belly fur was lightly coated with mud, climbing up towards her elbows, crusting around. That would be a pain to wash, but she didn't mind. The chatter of the cats slowly filtered out of her ears, her claws sheathed and unsheathed, her muscles screaming for the hunt as they rippled under her sleek black pelt. At this moment, the exile has escaped her mind. Of course, she was an easy target for being the killer. A cat who kept to herself. But she forgot about Emberfoot, who had suggested to join her. Pausing to look down from the rise, her tongue swiped over her muzzle and picking up drips of mud that clung from her whiskers. "Come on then kitty." She answered, a grin playing at her maw, masseter jaw pulling up as Opaqueshade waited for the orange tom. Company was minded, but groups were bland.

Swiftleaf's ear's dropped at the last sentence. The mirror image from the river reflected the movement back, even catching the slightest twitch of the tabby's whiskers. Little comforted the tom more then the familiar sight of a smooth running river. Even if it was out of his territory and in the unknown. And even with the small splashes made by the black she-cat of the group, doing Starclan knows what.
"Or maybe we will all turn into fishes."
"... frogs and lizards..."
"We can eat berries."
The tabby couldn't hold back a scoff. Wouldn't it be just fine if he were to be accused a murderer for picking herbs again? That was what he did after all. He was a medicine cat, that was his job! Or had been. Now the only thing the future held was misery. And death, most likely, given the circumstances.
"...more help hunting..."
"...Swiftleaf once he stops pouting over there."
The tom finally looked up, his eyes falling onto Foxstare with a curious glint. What had she been saying? This is exactly why I'm going to end up with claws in my throat, he thought bitterly. Swiftleaf stood with a sweep of his tail and padded over to the white she-cat. "Did you need me for something? Besides to accuse me of murder, I mean."

Foxstare suddenly felt a gaze upon her. With a curious look, she turned her head to see Thornheart watching her. She made sure to smile wide at the younger she-cat. Was that resentment she detected in those sweet eyes? Foxstare felt her grin grow bigger at that realization. Oh she loved that, show more of it! She wanted to see more of it!
And then, Thornheart spoke. Foxstare listened silently to her words. She stood there, stunned for several seconds before it happened. A snort escaped her, followed by a small giggle, then another, and another until she couldn't hold it any longer, and suddenly Foxstare found herself laughing out a storm. How hilarious! Did Thornheart really think she cared about what happened to them? Because Foxstare could honestly care less. Yes, she could show compassion, but if one of them ended up dying it wouldn't faze her at all. She didn't know these cats, they didn't know her. If one of them in this group was stupid enough to kill off a useful member of their small group then so be it. It wouldn't be her though, that's for sure. After all, she was only here with this band of misfits to increase her odds of survival as well as for the amusement. Yes, that's all and nothing else.
Once Foxstare managed to control her laughter her body was still shaking as she tried to still the giggles. "You're adorable. I like you." Was all she said in response, her voice hitting a low note as she spoke those words.
Foxstare then felt another pair of eyes on her. Wow, she had quite a lot of admirers today it seems. She turned to see it was Swiftleaf now looking at her, finally paying attention. He stood up and then walked over to her, Foxstare made sure to turn her head so that her good eye was staring him down with all the intensity this jester could muster up. "Thought of a good joke for us?" She teased, referring to his absent mind.
Then upon his words, she laughed and rolled her eyes at him. "You're silly! No one feels like accusing you of blood yet. I was suggesting we go out in pairs to hunt like jolly good friends. And I thought you and I should go hunt and laugh together with a skip and a pounce. Do you feel like it, or do you want to stay here and I'll just tag along with the Shadow Duo instead?" She explained and asked, referring to Thornheart and Scorchfire, giggling a little at the end due to the nickname she gave the two Shadowclan cats that she found quite hilarious, even though it wasn't.

Emberfoot took Foxstare's suggestion in stride. Not because he accepted her leadership- far from it actually- but because he was desperate to flee from the group. As the orange tom bounded after the outline of Opaqueshade, he perked his ears as he heard her voice echo towards him. For the first time since his exile, a small smile crept onto his lips. Of all the cats, he found Opaqueshade the most tolerable. She certainly knew how to handle herself, and wasn't one to sit idly by. A pleased grin sat on his lips as he spoke. "Who are you calling kitty, Opaqueshade? As it looks to me, I have about a rabbit's length on you. Considering one of us is a killer, it wouldn't be a clever idea to call me names."
As the ginger tom approached, his words were indeed emphasized. He towered above the black she-cat, at least on his lanky Windclan legs. "Perhaps I'll start calling you shorty then." He let a brisk smile pass by his lips, and some tension release from his shoulders. He flicked a mud covered paw in her direction, hoping to land some stray mud on her already dirtied pelt. "Well, are we going to stand here all day, or get some hunting done?"

Lifting her head to stare up at the orange tom, her whiskers twitched with a snort. "Aw, cute. But just because I'm small, doesn't mean I don't lack the physique!" And as if to prove it, she gave a small bounce on her paws, though mud sucked her back down, clumping under her claws. Her face turned serious once more, and experimentally lifted a paw. Mud surged and gurgled around her paw, sucking and squelching. Weird. And before she knew it, the light thump of mud pressed to her undercoat. With an exasperated expression, she craned her neck towards her shoulder, but not without shooting him a glare through narrowed blue eyes. "Gee, thanks. Trust me, you'll pay for that." It was only light-hearted and playful, there was a challenging sharpness underneath it's light veil. Another prank, smearing mud over his ears, or dumping the remains of the lizards on his nest. Maybe, maybe out of all of the crazy, she might have found someone sane. Someone who she could trust? Immediately she scowled at that. Anyone could be the killer. Don't be trusting. Tail lashing strongly, she began to 'waddle' her way out of the mud where it sucked at her legs. "Oh yeah. I was just waiting for you. But no more waiting, windy. I'll show you how ShadowClan does it." Waggling her haunches, she sprung the rest of the way out, shaking her pelt, before resuming her padding away. Cocky about the hunt, but only until he caught at it.

Scorchfire felt his tail curl in amusement. The chatter, the drama, this soon? He was definitely not in Shadowclan anymore, and he was definitely around a band of misfits like no other. Two she-cats, one he recognized to be Thornheart and the other he had come to know as Foxstare, were bantering- the usual she-cat stuff. However, he wanted no part in it.
Scorchfire's ears swiveled in the direction of two new voices. The she-cat, Opaqueshade was it? He remembered hearing her name at gatherings. He recognized Swiftleaf, but his presence shocked him. A medicine cat? Exiled? Scorchfire could not wrap his mind around the thought of it. He couldn't have been the murderer, he's a medicine cat. Maybe he had a secret lover? Scorchfire, however, found comfort in the two. Both were quiet, seemed to tend to themselves. And Opaqueshade agreed to hunt frogs and lizards, which pleased him because he was assigned to berry duty.
Foxstare however, seemed to put herself in charge. At this point, as long as things were getting done, Scorchfire had nothing to complain about. He got a peculiar vibe from the fiesty she-cat, he wasn't sure if he could trust her or not. Regardless, the feline would make an excellent ally, and he would rather like to remain on her good side. Scorchfire merely flicked his tail, signalling he accepted his role of 'berry collector.'
Scorchfire felt his chest rumble in a chuckle at Thornheart's eagerness. Shadowclan cats hardly had the time nor energy to be playful, and the slender she-cat was bounding through the bushes. It was conflicting, he would admit, the feeling inside him. He hated the situation he was in; being an outcast, thrown together with strangers. But it felt free, and a breath of fresh air was just what the scarred tom needed. "Slow-poke, hm?" He called after her, finding it a bit challenging maneuvering his rather broad frame through the brambles and bushes. "That's good, because I haven't the foggiest idea on how to berry hunt."

Swiftleaf could feel himself pause at the giggling she-cat. He was most definitely not enjoying the vibes wafting from the strange cat. Even without the strange circumstances, she acted almost maniacal. Still, if they were going to be stuck together, best to make amends now.
"Ah, no. Not the much of the joking type, I'm afraid." Starclan, did she ever stop laughing? It was putting the ex-medicine cat on edge. He glanced at the Shadowclan cats at Foxstare's mention, only to see their tails disappear into the forest. Well, if the jester was the murderer after all, now would be the time to know. The tabby made sure to keep his face emotionless as he mewed, "So what have we been assigned? Joking the prey away? Or laughing at the face of certain death?"

Foxstare took great notice in his discomfort, With a mischievous grin, she decided to add to that by leaning her flank against him in a dramatic way. Then with another laugh, she answered him. "Both sound wonderful, haha! Buttttttttttt, I got something else in mind." She said, and began to wiggle in place."Do you get what I'm saying?" She asked and wiggled her body again in a wavy manner. Apparently the hint was her wiggling. Finally, with a disappointed sigh, she explained with words. "You're a Riverclan cat, right? Even if you were a medicine cat, you must know how to fish, right, right?" She asked and then looked at the river that was nearby. With a shrugged, she tipped her head at an odd angle, looking at him in a creepy manner. "Maybe you can teach me the basics, and then we can catch some yummy fish for everyone."
She purred and finally left his side with a little hop and walked over to look into the river. There she could view her ugly reflection. Oh to her, that was a disgusting cat she saw in those blue depths. She deserved to be in there too. The she-cat's claws clenched the muddy dirt as she felt the temptation to jump in, to meet her reflection. But she thankfully ignored it and instead just waited for Swiftleaf's reply.

Her menacing grin held on her face, turned away from all the others, before she dropped it and gave Scorchfire a faked joyful one. Her acting was incredulous. One minute she could snap and then the next she could be happy and cheerful once more. "Don't worry!" she threw over her shoulder at him, "Just sniff! The red ones are the best, you know, the bigger and shinier ones? They're a bright red. I look for those! You can look for the black ones. Just any berries will do really!" she told him, before bounding a couple feet forward.
A thorny bush stood not to far away, and she quickly galloped after it with all the energy of a tiny kit. "Come on Scorchfire! Before the birds get them!" she giggled, plunging her head in the bush to see bright red berries. Pulling her head out, she took her paw and scooped some up. "They're called, 'Fakeberries.' They are quite delicious! Try some!" she held out her paw to him, offering him what she called 'Fakeberries', some others might call them 'Deathberries'. No one knew that she and her mother called them Fakeberries, since no body really paid attention to them. "Come on! I'll eat one too!" she picked up one with delicate teeth, hiding the poisonous berry under her tongue. One wrong move, and her mouth would fill with deadly poison.

Swiftleaf inhaled sharply when the she-cat touched him. It was unexpected, and to be quite honest, he wasn't fond of physical touch. Even when it was just accidentally brushing pelts going opposite ways, it was too much. So to have a cat lean purposely against him? The tom tensed nervously, only to have Foxstare add to the awkwardness with her rather... suggestive manner.
The tom stuttered at her words. "I-I honestly don't... " But at the mention of fishing, Swiftleaf relaxed. This was familiar. This was normal. He could catch some fish, right? He followed Foxstare, looking again at the reflections in the river. The white she-cat's odd eyes looked just as haunting in the water, a strange sense of concentration within them. Swiftleaf sighed before looking at the actual version of the cat. "That I can do. But you'll have to be completely quiet, and very still while I do." Though Swiftleaf thought that might be impossible, it was worth a shot. Though the other cats might not be fond of fish, it was still prey.
"All you have to do is sit by the water's edge, and watch for a fish. Keep your front paw ready for when it comes." The tabby demonstrated, his forepaw hovering just a mouse-whisker's length above the surface of the water. "When a fish does come by, you have to quickly flick it out. You have to be fast though, or you'd have stirred up the water for no reason." He sat back before looking at the she-cat quizzically. "You got all that?"

Emberfoot couldn't help but let out an amused snort as the mud hit its intended target. A smile pulled at the corners of his mouth, his foul mood finally releasing some of its hold. "I'd like to see you try." He laughed somewhat derisively. His amber eyes crinkled at the corners, pleased with the idea of having something to do with all of his free time. If it was a prank war with the Shadowclan warrior in front on him, it would have to suffice.
Turning towards some of the more solid ground, Emberfoot shook a paw free of mud in preparation for his jump. "There's so much mud on me, people will start thinking I'm a brown cat, not a ginger one." As he landed heavily on the set patch of ground, he cast a fixed glance at Opaqueshade. "Windy?" His lips curled into a halfhearted snarl, eyes rolling. "Oh, Starclan. You do love to give nicknames." He flicked his tail absentmindedly, ears pricking towards the shaded forest. He'd have to be quick on his feet with this she-cat.
Lifting his nose to the air, Emberfoot caught scent of the cats they had just left behind, as well as pine. As if that didn't make sense. They were surrounded by pine trees, for Starclan's sake. Exasperated, Emberfoot cast a weary glance towards Opaqueshade. "Okay, Opaquestar..." He murmured mordantly. "If you're such a master, where to now?"
